09 Oct EM Forster – literature, theatre and film – A Room with a View
Today, when I was sitting in a park nearby my elderly client’s residential care I remembered the spring afternoons when I was in my senior years of high school in Canberra. It was the lush expanse of grass, the Australian trees and the warmth of the spring sunshine that reminded me of lolling under a tree with my friends during a free afternoon period and reading the EM Forster book – Howard’s End.
I had chosen that book because of the deep love I had for the movie adaptation of another of EM Forster’s books – A Room with a View.
From what I can gather, it can be difficult to track down that movie in 2026. Although there may be a copy on YouTube somewhere. I think it is also available on Apple TV.
We used to watch this movie many times during school holidays in my tweens. There was something so beautiful about the landscapes in Florence, Italy, something so invigorating about the politics and the passion – my goodness.
Thankfully the soundtrack is still available.
And wonderfully, there is an adaptation of the novel playing at theatres in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth in 2026! A must see, I believe.
