Lenka – Intraspectral launch tour

Despite the fact that my friend said that you couldn’t turn on the radio without hearing Lenka‘s ‘The Show’ back in 2008, I had never heard of her or heard her music. I went along to the gig to accompany my friend. And it was a wonderful experience, I am so glad that I went!

Jeffe was Lenka’s support on the evening, and she was wonderful. A lovely mix of musical styles that were vulnerable and rich. She played the guitar, but the rest of her music was piped from speakers on the stage. She has a beautiful voice.

The first thing that I noticed about Lenka is that she is obviously a seasoned stage performer. She is very theatrical in her delivery and has a way of catching your eye in the audience, and giving you a special smile.

Her music is really upbeat and fun. The playfulness of ‘The Show’ has translated into an ongoing cheerfulness of her music, and Intraspectral is no different. She played many songs off this album, as well as some from her numerous other albums, as well as some of her big hits, finishing with the audience favourite ‘The Show’.

Her band are very talented, and apparently, the drummer, Dave Jenkins was responsible for much of the production of the new album. The album was actually released on the day of the show (18th November), so they were in a very celebratory mood. And it was a lovely evening of music and performance.

Interestingly, I have come across Lenka in different projects previously. She was the lead singer of the band Decoder Ring, which was a favourite of mine back in the early 00’s. She also provided vocals on Paul Mac’s track Panic Room as well as another track on his album. So, I have definitely heard her sounds, even if I didn’t connect the dots at the time. She is a wonderfully talented vocalist.
