Alphington Farmers Market

Alphington Farmers Market

I am at Alphington Farmer’s Markets. I don’t need any groceries- in fact my vegetable crisper is still filled with food that I hope to transform into something yummy today. However, it will still be nice to check out the stalls and get ideas for next week’s menu. I will get a better idea of what is in season in late winter and come home with a tentative plan for the week after next!

Truth be told I wasn’t exactly sure what my purpose was for this adventure, but I just felt like getting out of the house and my intuition suggested the Alphington Farmers Market. It is certainly a fertile place for ideas to grow!

The stalls are so lovely. So many great staples to keep in mind for future grocery shops.

The fact that you can talk directly to the producers of the food is so incredibly rewarding. I spoke to a farmer at length about his hens and eggs. He shows me photos of his beautiful pastures and doesn’t even kill the male ones! He keeps them in a retirement village.
The stall holders are so friendly. And the produce looks yummy.

And it is obviously a meeting place for people in the community. It also is a great place to pick up a coffee or bakery snack. I had a zucchini quiche from a wonderful baker here and a yummy oat flat white from the coffee stall. It was the kind of coffee that is weak enough to enjoy another one in a little while. I assume the beans are organic. It is yummy.

There are lots of great Farmers Markets in Melbourne. And Alphington is great.
