07 Aug MIKA Grace Kelly and his whole catalogue of work
I am not sure how I came across MIKA. He may have been on an Eliza Doolittle radio station or something like that, but he came onto my radar around 2011, a few years after he had come to fame and fortune. MIKA Grace Kelly is his most famous song, but there are so many others that are brilliant.
Songs like Touches You, Lollipop, Big Girl (You Are Beautiful), Happy Ending, and countless others filled my soul with happiness and fun.
And then his album The Origin of Love came out in 2012, and it had some great songs on it too. The most popular was Popular Song perhaps, but Underwater, Step with Me and Celebrate were also favourites.
Last night, due to an early morning awakening, I put MIKA on my stereo and listened to his profile songs. I then got sleepy (thankfully), so tucked under a blanket on the couch, and woke to one of the most beautiful sounds I had ever heard!
It was this:
MIKA – A L’Opera Royal de Versailles (Live)
I have never heard anything like it! It is such a wonderful culmination of so many years of really excellent music-making. And I loved listening to the whole thing!
MIKA did come to play in Melbourne a while back, and I wasn’t sure whether I should go. It was expensive (to be expected, I suppose), and I hadn’t really heard him live before. But this makes me feel SO DETERMINED to see him live one day! Even if I have to travel for the pleasure 🙂
Enjoy!
