reflections on the first six years of a weekend of adventures - winter solstice 2023

A blog of memories – thoughts on 2017 – 2023

On. a purely personal level, I want to pay homage to my journey on A Weekend of Adventures so far.

I just browsed the archive back to when it began in February 2017, I was pretty naive with regard to the discipline of SEO and also in matters of the heart. But if nothing else, my blog serves as a beautiful pictorial journal of the essential cultural experiences of my life since 2017.

It is funny because, for those first posts, I was in the process of giving up nicotine spray, and there definitely is something ‘brighter’ about what I noticed in the world visually, during those first posts of 2017. And even into 2018.

Of course, skimming over the posts for those past six years or so allowed me to recall in glowing detail particular critical moments in the course of my illness. And, the break in my transmission seemed to coincide with the period of history of the 2020-21 Coronavirus pandemic. I think many of us lost the thread of our lives during that time!

And it is nice to be back. With a healthier understanding of what makes a blog ‘popular’. Even if it never achieves popularity and remains in the distant corners of the Internet, I love it. It is like having a picture journal of my life to look back on. From the highs of a hot Melbourne summer and dreaming of bathing in the NGV fountains, to red wine, art and new friendship on cold winter nights.

Maybe most importantly, it makes me warm with love for my friends. All these experiences we have shared together, have been so incredibly inspiring.

And so, on this bitterly cold winter’s evening, with a belly full of dal, and red wine, and with my coming-of-age playlist on the stereo, I just want to say ‘cheers’, to you for being here with me, and to myself for making this wonderful world of memories. Thank you!

2023-2024 – I am excited to see you unfold!
