COVID-19 has certainly brought more television into my life. Some of it good, some of it not so good. A friend suggested Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency to me on the weekend 'if I liked something a bit quirky.' I bought the first episode of Series 1 on iTunes to get a sense of whether [...]
What are your top 10 favourite films of all time? One of my favourite collections of cinema was the Three colours trilogy. Julie Delphy was so beautiful in Three Colours White, although I am not sure that she was in the happiest of relationships in that film! Three Colours Blue with Juliette Binoche was also [...]
It is Australia Day, apparently. However, the message has changed from ‘change the date’ to ‘abolish Australia Day all together.’ It really does seem fair enough. 'Sovereignty was never ceded'. 'Indigenous Australians were here for 60,000 years, compared to the 231 years of Colonial Australians.' I dare say multiculturalism is a positive thing and helps [...]
Was a really interesting talk tonight at the Wheeler Centre. The speaker was Bill Frelick, who is the director of the Refugees Rights Program at Human Rights Watch. He has also worked at Amnesty International the US Commission for Refugees. He spoke of six barriers to refugees in 2018. It was saddening and eye opening [...]

If there is one thing I have learnt in this life, it is that it is a good idea to have a selection of albums for any emotion. My go to for when I am livid with anger is The Dresden Dolls - particularly the album 'Yes, Virginia'. It is so satisfying.
I finished the first season of the Handmaid's Tale last night. It was an intense mixture of horror and uplifting inspiration. Such a great, creative story. And I loved the ending. I loved the audacity. I loved leaving that family completely barren. Dystopian fiction can be very interesting.
Back to where it all began. :-) It was so exciting to come to Melbourne that first long weekend in 2015. I sat in exactly the same bar on a vibrant Friday afternoon and couldn’t believe that I got through the experience without smoking a cigarette! Amazing :-) Today, I am celebrating my freedom. Even [...]
I am pretty sure that what matters to me at least is art and culture. And people who enjoy art and culture. There is something so satisfying about getting completely out of my own head for an evening or afternoon. Tonight was not one of these nights. It was a younger crowd, that my friend [...]
