The Menu – a comedic/horror movie with twists

The genre of The Menu movie is comedy/horror, which is such an interesting mix of genres I think. The overwhelming impression I am left with is ‘what a complete psycho!’

It was incredibly entertaining to watch some of the wealthiest and most self-satisfied characters express some of their completely ridiculous attitudes towards the upper echelons of restaurant service and gastronomy. The whole theatre (which was packed, we were lucky to get seats in the second row), was laughing a lot at the rich people who were showing just how idiotic and facile they were.

But then things took a dramatic turn, and it was time for the horror part of the movie to kick in. It was pretty scary to watch Ralph Fiennes – the head chef lead the diners and his staff through a series of ever increasingly grisly horror.

However, when all was said and done, the plot was so ridiculous and so psychotic in nature, that it couldn’t haunt me for too long. And the day after watching it, I feel like the main takeaway was how ridiculous the insanely rich are, and how much of a psycho the chef, played by Ralph Fiennes was. So much so that it makes me chuckle to think of it! And yet his whole staff were 100 % per cent committed to him.

It really was an amusing and interesting film! Terrifying, yes. But very humourous too!
