Early Father’s Day celebration at Bon Ap in Fitzroy

Yay!!

How lucky am I???

Being in this situation where my Dad has been visiting me for the past two weeks is just awesome!!

IT IS SO MUCH FUN that I don’t know how to best express the joy of it.

We have never really spent any length of time together just the two of us, so it is all new. I like getting to know more about how he thinks and the way he works. He has been so wonderfully careful with my kitchen renovation. And I am continually amazed at just how intelligent he is. His mind is always ticking over thinking about the structure and practicalities of how to put the parts of it all together.

Then we drink beers and go out to dinner on many occasions and the more we do it, the more I feel comfortable chatting with him, and the more fluid our conversation becomes. It is just one of the most lovely couple of weeks of my life so far 😀

So nice.

Tonight we went out to dinner at Bon Ap. It is his last night here, so I asked him on Monday where he would like to go and today we went back to his old favourite on Brunswick Street in Fitzroy.

We decided it is true on some occasions that ‘you get what you pay for’ because the meal we ate was magnificent. We had croquettes and scallops for entree and then he had duck and I had Barramundi for mains. The flavours were so exquisite. My fish fillet laid on a bed of a leek kind of mash, but we thought it had potato in it, and it wasn’t pulverised, it was almost like a sauerkraut texture, but soft and warm and leek. There were also dutch baby carrots, a few green mesculin leaves and the most delicious mushroom sauce, which was light and a bit sweet. So nice!

Dad’s duck had a kind of thicker orange sauce and was served with scalloped potatoes. A taste sensation!

He gave me some wine tips and we drank some red, and then we walked home through the streets of Fitzroy and chatted all the way.

It was one of the most lovely evenings of my life 🙂

All this time, I never knew just how much I have to talk to him about!!! 😀 Yay for Dads.
