Utterly remarkable election result!!

It has been great to see some of the response on social media to the most remarkable election result in Australia last night.

This is my contribution. It was originally posted by my brother. (I gave him the toilet paper as a present, as I bought it from the Chaser and sent it to him, but I feel that may have been in the Abbott era, so he must have stocked up!!)

It seems that not many are sorry to see Dutton go. He made an excellent concession speech, but I am so happy he is gone. Suggesting his own electorate as a potential site for a nuclear power plant probably didn’t go over so well! I know that the Liberal candidate in Eden Monaro said something similar. The nuclear policy was my least favourite of the Liberals’ policies. But maybe it was an effective line in the sand.

We may have lost our Greens candidate in Melbourne this election, which would be a shame. I think the redistribution of boundaries may have contributed to this, as when I went to vote there were lots of people in the queue who live in North Fitzroy and no longer part of the Melbourne electorate.

Either way, it is lovely to see all the people wearing red today. I get the sense that Trump’s fiasco had a fair bit to do with the result, but it was the biggest cohort of younger voters ever, so maybe this is a trend towards progressive politics in this country!!
