Larking in the ‘rapids’ – Towamba River

For some reason seeing the weekend stretch out in front of me makes me think of the invigorating sensation of bathing in the rapids today. The oxygenated rushing water rushing over my head and my body was so refreshing when I was growing up on the banks of the Towamba River.

So much of our leisure time was spent along different parts of this river. We would swim, play pretend, explore and create in so many different places for kilometres up and down the river.

There was a particular kind of wholesome that this play space brought into my life.

The smooth granite provided the stage for our play. And the coarse river sand, always burned my feet. The water was clean and fresh. We had our favourite spots.

We would find natural rock formations like water slides and jump into the water, sliding down the rock faces into the pools of water below.
