Light exercise and frustration – the Lime Bike experience

It wasn’t too much fun.

The idea was to rent a bike and go for a big long ride. I had a trail in mind, and paid for an hour of bike rental hoping that I could either get a fair way along the trail, or simply pay for another hour for the privilege of cycling.

It all came unstuck because as soon as I started to climb the hill that would take me to the trail, a countdown started on the dashboard of said bike and it started slowing down. I checked the map in its app, and it seemed like the whole parkland, everywhere north of Studley Park Road was a red no-go area.

I was so disappointed because it was the hills that I was looking forward to. And I was forced to get back to the flat roads of Abbotsford.

With what purpose?

My idea this afternoon was to get some exercise. . . and I thought about options of physical exercise that I really enjoy. Cycling is up there. . . I wanted to know if I could get a workout on a e-bike. . . because I am considering hiring one to deliver Uber Eats/DoorDash some evenings. . . I want a job that involves physical exercise!! Right now, , , I am sitting on my proverbial for long periods of time. . . what joy would be a job that provided physical activity as part of the core activities!

The thing that I will have to be careful about if I do decide to move forward with this plan is that it will be physically dangerous. . . It is fun cruising around the streets, but me being me, I am likely to perform some pretty risky maneouvres at times. . . it is just the way that I engage with the roads as a bicyclist. . . . Hmmmm, lalala

Rules and more rules – for what good?

In search of a hill, I attempted to cross Alexandra Parade up Wellington Street to Clifton Hill, which has an incline as well. . . the same thing happened. The Lime bike ground to a halt about a quarter of the way up the hill.

It is most disappointing, and I blame our local governments, perhaps. It seems that the only places we can ride these bikes now are within the tight borders of this inner city island. . . they have reduced the freedoms on Lime bikes and scooters progressively since they were introduced in our local areas.

It is not ideal.
