07 Nov Glenworth Valley on a summer night!!
Gosh it was fun!! 🙂
I remember once, , , when Astro was playing support for Stereolab. . . . I was there with a couple of friends, , , I seem to recall. . . And we walked into the bandroom at the Metro, I think it was called. . . and there he was, , , up on that stage, , , was he wearing red??? I don’t know, , , but as soon as we walked in, , , they (him and his friendly DJ accomplice) (hehe!! 😛 ), started playing. . .
I guess that is to be expected right?? They were the support act, , , so they were warming us up. . . We were some of the first people there. . . (I think there were some other people there before us).
Of course, I remember that first time that I ever heard his music. We were at Glenworth Valley, , , me and my mates. I was selling Mexican Hammocks up on a hill, , , and that day something strange happened. . . I entered the ‘matrix’ as Misty Tripoli would say, and all of a sudden dancing felt like a kind of architecture. . . I finally ‘heard’ music. And felt like I was ‘a part of it’.
Something was brewing before that day. The night before I saw a band called CODA play in a tent just next to the tent where Astro and his mate were to play the next night. CODA played electronic music infused with real instruments such as violins, and double bass, , , and something landed in me. . . something clicked, and I fell in love with electronic music from that moment. (Except I am wondering if maybe I saw CODA the year before, because I was there two years in a row, , , and so was Astro – I didn’t see him play the first time).
Somewhere in the middle of that, Det had introduced me to Aphex Twin, , , but that must have been before, , , because Det showed us Aphex Twin before we went to France, and, I loved electronica there. . . Maybe I just didn’t dance to it.
So, there they were – him and his very fun and very nice DJ friend. . . I always think of the colour yellow when I think of Astro’s second (??) musical group. I guess because that was the colour of his album I loved so much.
I walked in with some friends, and we were towards the back and on the left, in line with Astro. I have never felt so energised again in my life as that night. The first song I heard was Hands Up High. It was just so funky, and fun, and funny. I danced my arse off for the full hour, , , and when it was done, , , I meandered closer to the stage to get a look at these incredible people who had made this incredible experience.
It was always the way he looked at me, even in that very first moment, that made me think that maybe there was ‘something between us’.
