Sending the meal back at Goldy’s

Last night was an interesting experience.

I was craving bolognaise, , , I looked at Dr Morse’s menu because they had what I needed last time, but they have updated their website and now there is no menu. . . I wasn’t going to try my luck there, since, , , they have gone SO downhill since they swapped out their old management team. . . I am going to miss those lovely people so much!

I checked Goldy’s menu and they had a ‘lasagne’, on the menu. Spring Lasagne it was . . So, I thought. . . great! And got on my legs in the rain to get out to there.

During my walk I thought about how much I love the rain. Especially on a warm spring day. It is delightful to get out into it.

Dinner!!

I got to the bar and ordered my dinner. . . the spring lasagne and a leaf salad ‘to start’.

Then I say on my stool and people watched until my dinner came.

When it came out,  ,  , I couldn’t see any meat in it. I was disappointed, but started to eat my salad and then had a few first bites of the ‘lasagne’.

It was pretty disgusting, and had no meat in it, , , so (and I don’t know where this confidence is coming from), I took the plate and headed to the bar, but when that was full I walked to the kitchen.

A waitress stopped me and said ‘can I help you?’

To which I said ‘I can’t eat this.’ ‘I thought it had meat in it’. She said ‘Sorry, it said the ingredients on the menu.’ I said ‘but it is lasagne. I assumed it had meat in it’. And mumbled something about swapping it for the steak special. Then I realised she wasn’t going to help me. I said ‘I paid $33 for this, and I can’t eat it’. I could tell she wasn’t going to help, so I walked back to my table and slammed the food on the table with a crash. Then sat and started eating the rest of my salad.

A solution

She came up to me and said ‘sorry, I didn’t want to make you feel upset’. ‘We can fix this for you’.

It was steak night and I said: ‘I want to have the steak special. I don’t need any salad or chips, but I bought this salad as well as the meal. And I need meat’. She said ‘the menu said that the lasagne was vegan and vegetarian’. ‘But we will do it for you this time’. At which point, I said ‘thank you, I will be more careful next time.’

I feel sad now .  . . They brought out the plate (and asked me before it came what kind of sauce I wanted), and it had chips and salad on it. I had red wine juice and it went nicely with a few chips. . . And a few bites of salad. And I had told the server before it came out that I would put some money in the tip jar. She said it wasn’t necessary. And the cut of meat was very fatty. . . I ate a good proportion of it, and left maybe 2/3 of the meal on the plate.

Then I went to the bar and put $20 in the tip jar. She said I didn’t have to. . . But her eyes lit up with the money. I thought ‘it is only money. And I have made a scene’. And apologised to the waitress saying ‘I am sorry I got angry’. She said ‘we were happy we could work it out for you.

I left and went to the supermarket. . . And maybe I was being too generous. . . I dunno. I had just spent $1700 on solar panels. . . what is an extra $20??

Yum

The steak was delicious, and exactly what my body needed, so it was a good result.

I guess the lasagne would have been a terrible meal no matter what day, , , perhaps. It had so much faux cheese in it. . . However, I didn’t want to be the ‘bad guy’… I wanted to smooth things over. And I think that $20 is a small price to pay for an enduring relationship with Goldy’s.

I guess I shoulda taken it back and said ‘I can’t eat this. It is disgusting’, and got my money back. I was being honest I suppose. . . I feel like I didn’t really stand up for myself that much. . . But it was a step in the right direction.
