04 Sep In the sunshine at Preston Market
I am quite into Preston I have to say!
I am sitting outside Tammy’s a Borek and Gozleme joint. I decided on this particular establishment because the tables outside are bathed in sunshine and when I got a coffee from here on Sunday morning, it was PARTICULARLY delicious and felt like a nice hit of caffeine without too many nasties.
It is funny, but the aspect of this cafe is the same as the Waterfront Cafe in Merimbula, I think. It is the way the sun shines from the north east and the way the tables are arranged outside in rows. Of course, instead of looking out over the lake, my view is a carpark. But how about this market! It is open five days a week and it is just wonderful.
It would take months to try all the different kinds of foods that are on offer. And I can imagine it is a lovely place to come and do the grocery shopping. Maybe I should venture up here. I suppose it is a bit out of the way for everyday shopping, however, I remember my neighbour used to take his trolley and catch the train up to Preston to shop at the markets.
When I was in my funny studio that was built above a garage in someone’s back yard (complete with a very precarious ladder into the accommodation), I felt like Preston has a similar sensory fingerprint to Sydney for me. I just felt the tropical, lush, energetic vibe of Sydney in this suburb.
And it is simply amazing to see the array of cafes, restaurants and bars that have sprung up along High Street. Sure, it is one street – strip shopping and suburban beyond that (on the whole, I suspect), but it is still a very cool vibe along there.
It has been so fun house sitting and staying in accom during these past four weeks. I want to do it again! I can’t wait to my next house sit, which is in Westgarth later on in September!
