Tina (2024) – (Mother)

Tina (2024) was an exceptionally moving tribute to a beautiful woman. It is set in Christchurch in the time around and after the major earthquake in 2011.

A grieving mother becomes a substitute teacher in an elite school and discovers children there who are lacking guidance and care. She provides inspiration and support to these students, and ultimately changes their lives.

I don’t have a bad thing to say about this movie. It was absolutely beautiful. There were plot holes scattered all through the film, and I DON’T CARE. The acting felt so sincere that it was almost (but not quite) saccharine. It was just an exceptionally moving and exceptionally sweet movie that enriched my life so much for having seen it.

It was particularly wonderful to see Samoan culture living large on the big screen. This movie helped me to understand more of the context of my extended family’s environment. I think it would be an educational watch for most people. And it explored racial discrimination in a very sensitive way.

What I loved most about Tina was the bittersweet exploration of the natural cycles of life. Of life and death. And about the power of leaving a legacy.
