12 Aug The ‘commute’ – suburban dream
I am certainly learning more about the realities of transportation for what is probably a large proportion of this city’s inhabitants. It involves spending hours in my car. And while that is not a too thoroughly awful experience given that I have a growing list of podcasts I wish to listen to (and a pretty fantastic driving music playlist), I can imagine that it is going to feel like a bit of a grind after a while. And it doesn’t feel so good for the environment to fill the arteries of our city with these polluting machines.
I was thinking about how the issue could be addressed within the parameters of game theory on my way home, but can’t say that I came up with any kind of solution.
Although I have used my car a lot more in the years since I started going out to clients’ homes, living in my city fringe location, and probably the precise location of my apartment means that most destinations are pretty reasonable in terms of distance and time.
It took me 56 minutes to get home today. 😮 My jaw dropped when I saw the figure. Admittedly, I had detoured to Glen Iris to go on a kitchen renovation mission but my normal commute to Balwyn is about 18 minutes!!
This is the reality of living a little further out. And it is an interesting and sobering experience.
