08 Jun Cerith Wyn Evans at the MCA
We went to see Cerith Wyn Evans at the MCA today. The concept was neon light sculptures that could be experienced like walking through a ‘garden’. There were some palm plants near the entrance to strengthen this point.
The sculptures were impressive structurally, I thought. With an incredible array of wires and electronics supporting them. But there was no way that it felt like ‘walking through a garden’. I have talked about my reactions to fluorescent light before. I should have known that ‘neon’ sculptures may have a similar effect.
Indeed, I felt quite the opposite of having spent time in nature. I felt like someone had plugged an electric circuit into me and run some bright electrode current through it. It was not so nice!
