Katie Spencer at House on the Hill

She laughed at our definition of a ‘hill’ having come from West (??) Yorkshire, where hills sound like they are more like those in Hobart. . . (with real incline).

Her music was gentle, guitar and folk. It was beautiful and such a lovely vibe for a chilled Saturday night.

Whippet good

One of the best things about the evening was the hosts’ 5 month old whippet puppy, who was just bounding around through the room throughout the evening. We got to the venue early and nabbed some comfy couches to watch the show. This allowed the whippet puppy-dog (whose name I am not sure of) to jump up and give us lots of cuddles.

Nicely toasted

We sipped on limoncello spritz that I had brought for the occasion, and the whole effect was a warm kind of inebriation that was very pleasant.

At the end of the evening we chatted about Katie’s plans to travel to Port Fairy to perform at the folk festival next weekend. I asked her about her plans for the Great Ocean Road, and with Josephine we nutted out a plan to make the trip in a day and still see some of the sights. She is on such an adventure! After Port Fairy she will go to the Central coast and then the Blue Mountains.

She was a true storyteller. All her little anecdotes between many of her songs belied her rich culture and history of music making.

Just lovely, lovely music! And a wonderful performer.
