23 Feb Prosecco Festival – Abbotsford Convent
It was expensive.
It was hot.
It was fun.
In the heat of the pavilion we tasted dozens of samples of Prosecco. We learned that they all came from the same type of grape, but they taste different due to the different processing techniques.
It is truly amazing to comprehend how different all those varieties of Prosecco (so called after a town in Italy), could taste when the grape is the same. I guess that is the same with other forms of wine too. And the soil quality and farming practices would have a big impact.
Some pinot grape skins were used to create a pink colour of one of the Prosecco varieties we tasted, but we preferred the one that had been flavoured with strawberries and raspberries.
After tasting nearly all the Prosecco varieties on offer, we stepped outside into the relative cool (35 C!! 😮 ) and sat on the lawn and drank a naughtily acquired bottle of one of our favourite varieties. (Babino)
In typical Melbourne style, there was a sun shower of beautiful cool rain while we were sitting outside. It cooled us down a little.
We feasted on pizza and calzone and had limoncello gelato. Then we took our glasses of limoncello spritz and wandered the grounds of the convent engaging with the animals there.
