Voting closes in the Hottest 100 in about an hour. I got my votes in by the skin of my teeth. It was more difficult this year, because while I was familiar with many of the songs that were contenders for the list, there was not too many songs that jumped out and screamed ‘favourite’ to me.
The last decision that took me a few days was the decision for the 10th place. Yet again I have vote regret. I probably should have put Risk in by Gracie Abrams. It would be more likely to receive a spot and I listened to that a lot in 2024. Maybe I didn’t want to associate myself with it, because it is done. I took the risk and got so burned that all I can feel is pain. I am literally drowning in it. I hope she had a better outcome.
My favourite song on the list is Finneas – For Crying Out Loud! There is something about that song that I found utterly delightful. I had a couple of other favourites that would have made the list but for the fact that I was pretty sure they wouldn’t make the list. Stop Calling by JACOTENE was one of those.
I have made a playlist of my short list. I will add to this during the countdown when I will likely find more songs that I love and missed in 2024. There are a lot of songs on this list that are not altogether familiar to me, and I am not sure that I love them yet, but I have added them due to the fact that I love the artists. I can clean it up as I go.
