Boite Choir and native chai

Boite Choir and native chai

It is too beautiful a night to head home. The night is cool and fresh. There is a festive atmosphere in the air.

After watching a very joyful Boite choir sing songs of the Torres Strait, at the Recital Centre, I am now drinking a native botanical chai at Mabu Mabu in Federation Square.

The music was so wonderful. I decided to go because I thought it would build my knowledge of First Nations culture. It certainly reinforced the importance of storytelling through music in those cultures. The way that songs and stories come ‘from out there’. And go back to the same place.

Christine Anu was their guest and she sparkled on stage. Her beautiful voice reverberated around the beautiful timber recital hall.

Often, through the recital the Boite choir would use their hands and arms to make symbols to accompany the music. We joined them at the end. Apparently the synchronised movements helps the singers to remember the parts of the songs.

The Boite Choir is celebrating 45 years this year. The night was hosted by the talented art director of the performance Deb Clark.

It lifted my heart to the sky. And sitting here with a pepper berry, cinnamon Myrtle, wattle seed and spice chai, is a nurturing experience to let the evening settle in to my soul,
