22 Apr Melbourne Comedy Festival wrap up
So the Melbourne International Comedy Festival is finished again for another year. It sucks actually! Why can’t these comedians do their shows every night of the week all year round? Hehe. I am sure that wouldn’t be hard at all, ha.
I didn’t see as many shows as one of my friends who saw 12 shows over the month, but I did see quite a few. And they varied from big-name stars (Tom Gleeson, Arj Barker, Tommy Little), to some up-and-comers I had never heard of before (Tori Crisp, Hannah Sainty), and a few in between (Lizzy Hoo. The Chaser, Tom Ballard and Bronwyn Kuss). My favourite act of the festival was Tom Gleeson. He was right, we were kind to go and support a middle-class, white, rich guy, established in comedy. Haha. His show was hilarious though. He was getting into being heckled by the crowd and took it all in his stride.
It is a wonderful art form, and the people I saw were so talented. How on earth do they remember a whole 60 minutes of material, and perform it with humour every night (sometimes for a whole month!)?
I had quite a bit of FOMO too. There were a few acts that I would have loved to go and see but wasn’t able to swing it. It was good to see some newbies, I thought Tori Crisp was particularly talented and would probably go and see her again. The way that she made eye contact and spoke the name of some guy in the front row as she acted a sexual act as part of her first entrance into the mile-high club was particularly hilarious.
Can’t wait to do it again next year, Melbourne!! You’re so funny.
