27 Jan The Gem – fried chicken burgers and ROCK music
My neighbourhood is vibing tonight. ..
It was late, and I hadn’t had dinner, for some reason, I had a hankering for a fried chicken burger, which made me think of the Gem, which is just a couple of blocks from me.
It was so much fun! I walked in, and the whole place was heaving, with beautiful bodies everywhere.
I pushed my way through the crowd and the bartender kindly ordered me a burger, but I wasn’t sure where I was going to eat it, because it was not like there were free tables anywhere. He ordered it anyway, and I found a nice little nook near the bar to stand in. Then I started to notice the music. It was so warm. . . acoustic kind of rock music, I would say. Everyone was having a good time, and it was so different to the music I had heard today, but the sound of the instruments was so warm and lovely.
I ate my burger and the band finished, and the rock they played in the interim of the next band was something else!
I wanted to take some photos of some lights in the window and asked a man sitting in the window if he would mind being in my photo. We got chatting and it turns out that he makes (and sells) guitars. He knew the woman headlining the next set. . . And so I stayed around for a while to listen, but I wasn’t so inspired by the country and western vibe and my headache got the better of me, so I came home.
But how wonderful!! Goldys is going off too! And the air is so rich and lush with the scent of beautiful summer roses and other flowers 🙂
What a night!
