14 Jan Gotye – Loath to Refuse
Oh wow! Gotye – Loath to Refuse!! It stops everything in my world for a few moments!
This song just burst into my living room. It reminds me of the time when I moved to Sydney and effed up my life in the process. But what it mostly reminds me of is the passion that I felt when I listened to this song. I loved it so much!
It has dated well I think. It is still such a haunting, beautiful tune.
It has some of the hallmark Gotye brand of sounds within its bars, but it is just a wonderful mix of melancholy, desire and all the feelings!
How long since you were in Sydney? I need to get back soon!!
I love the lyrics so much too. This is the first time I have ever seen them ‘written out’, but even listening to them in the song felt like she was a woman who was not afraid to change her mind, hehe.
Gotye – Loath to Refuse lyrics
If you don’t want me now
Then you can’t have me later
‘Cause I won’t wait for you
So don’t expect me to
If you won’t love me now
Then we’ll be nothing after
So you had better stay
Lest I take my love away
You don’t want to lose me
But you’re loath to refuse me
And I know that you’ll always choose me
Over anybody else
If you won’t leave me now
You won’t see me later
Leave me on my own
I need to be alone now
And though you want me now
You can wait ’till after
‘Cause patience is a virtue my love
The question is ‘do you have enough’?
Gotye – Boardface
Having just listened to the whole Boardface album, I feel like it is a good one. I am not sure why it hasn’t been discovered by all those Gotye fans out there!
Whatever happened to Gotye? The last I heard, I thought he might be living in Germany. I guess he made so much money from that album, particularly the song ‘Someone that I used to know’, that he doesn’t need to make music any more!
I have some clear favourites from each of his albums but Gotye Loath to Refuse may be in my all-time top 10 songs (maybe!!??). That would be a fun playlist! Have you ever thought about your top 10 (or top 50 perhaps) songs of all time? Triple J did a Hottest 100 on that theme once (or have they only done one for the decade??). I didn’t think it was very good. But it has given me an idea. Choosing my 50 top songs of all time might be fun!!
