20 Sep Comedy(ish) at Comedy Republic
Going out to see comedy can be so energising, and tonight was no different. We went to Comedy(ish) at the Comedy Rebublic, where three comedians – Geraldine Hickey, Bronwyn Huss and Lucy Hoo each performed 20 minutes of stand-up that they are working on for inclusion in their shows at the Comedy Festival next year.
I loved it so much. It was so lovely to see these very talented comedians show up with more than the usual amount of vulnerability. It felt so raw and so personal, and yet a lot of it was very, very funny.
And I have found some new favourite comedians to follow! They were all great, but I really liked Geraldine’s capacity to tell an engaging story, with or without a punchline, and Lizzy’s capacity to step up and challenge societal norms. I loved her sketches about dating in 2023. They were inspiring,
My friend shouted me a ticket for my birthday. We went to China Red before the show for dinner. And it was the perfect evening, despite the weather, which was decidedly wintry and inclement this afternoon and evening! (Note to self – check the Bureau forecast in springtime!)
At $8 a ticket, Comedy(ish) is a steal. And it really warmed my soul and my heart to see these amazing comedians test their ideas and share their stories. It was the perfect way to add a bit of joy and energy to the week!
