Canberra feels like it is built for the outdoors and for picnics and walks in nature. I have plans to go for a walk around the lake and a picnic with my niece today. So my mission today has to be find food to take to a picnic. I am thinking quiches and other bakery goods as well as salad, so I have been looking for a gourmet deli in Canberra to get some tasty snacks. A Google search for ‘Gourmet deli Canberra’ is a bit hit and miss. But I got a couple of ideas.

I ended up at Fyshwick Markets on this fine Saturday morning. And I was happy to find that they have a number of delis in there. And they do have some tasty snacks for a picnic, but precious little in the way of salad I am afraid.
Still, it is wonderful to sit outside in the sunshine and drink a coffee. Especially because I ran into a friend from school and so we were comparing notes about a new industry we have both started working in.
The other thing that you can do at Fyshwick Markets is pick up a gift or two. So, if you are a tourist and looking for something to take to a gathering in Canberra this weekend, Fyshwick Markets might be a good option for you.

Spring sunshine

Canberra really turns on the beautiful sunshine, even on a chilly early spring day. And I am liking the south side of this city more than the north (maybe). It has a different energy to me. Less bleak somehow. There seems to be more of a concentration of cafes and restaurants in the south. However, this may just be because I am more familiar with the south.

The whole experience makes me want to travel more, to experience more and more of this amazing country. Although living in inner Melbourne does spoil one, I feel. Trying to find coffee, or cafes outside that precinct can be a bit of a disappointment. However, if I can manage my expectations, it feels energising to be experiencing a different environment. And it is making me want to travel more. I want to get to know this wonderful country.

The only question remains- how to make that possible from a financial point of view. So, this will be my project this weekend.
