15 Aug Gotye – Hearts a Mess lyrics
Another artist from my history, with much nicer connotations is Gotye. He soundtracked a lot of my stint living on the Sapphire Coast, in Merimbula. I first remember walking through the laneways around Alice Street listening to Hearts A Mess.
It surely touched mine! Such a beautiful song, for such a beautiful place. (See below for some Heart a Mess lyrics)
The most beautiful, untouched, paradise in the world perhaps. And so vulnerable as well.
The words remain true to this day:
‘I’m desperate to connect. . . And you can’t live like this.’ – so true!
‘Your hearts a mess. You wanted me to it. It makes no sense. But I’m desperate to connect. And you, you can’t live like this.’
I can almost feel the open blue skies, blue water and green mangroves in my soul when I listen to this song again.
The next song on the album is where I came a bit unstuck, unfortunately!
I would ride my bike around that lake like Lily Allen in Alright, Still. And it was so incredibly breathtaking, the breeze, the blue water, the skies, and an absolutely gorgeous boy in my heart.
It reminds me of Araganuu and the beautiful rock sculptures there, and the gorgeous sea and Tathra, all the lovely shops and beaches there.
‘An itch that I can’t scratch. I know you’re coming back.’ As true today as it was then!
‘But I know you will return my dear.’
‘Never leave me, make me burn. You’re coming back. You’re coming back.
I’ll wait patiently for your return. You’re coming back. You’re coming back.’
It is definitely one of my favourite songs of all time. It reminds me of living in that little apartment in the sky before I moved away and then destroyed myself and everything around me.
Lastly, one of the songs that is most meaningful to me, but only really makes sense to me, today, is Someone I Used to Know.
Given the nature of my duplicitous heart during that period, this song gets me in all the feels.
Gotye is such a brilliant artist. I wait patiently for him to bring out some more music if he feels so inclined.
Eating in cafes, making big, big mistakes, making a total mess, tears, shame, and an enduring love,
Beautiful music!
