26 Jun The Dresden Dolls songs – perfect for rage
There are so many brilliant Dresden Dolls songs. My first acquaintance with this band was with the song Coin Operated Boy, which I thought was very funny, and it became my password for all my Myspace accounts – hehe, ‘coinoperated6’. It has been a long time since the Dresden Dolls put out an album, but I still listen to the album Yes, Virginia sometimes. Usually when I am in an angry mood. Music that can reflect and empathise with rage is few and far between, I find (not counting thrash metal or something, which is not my style), but The Dresden Dolls Yes, Virginia satisfies me every time.
Who is Amanda Palmer?
It is so great to see that Amanda Palmer has gone on to have such a successful and creative career in music, art and film. I saw her perform a few years ago at an NGV Nights on one Friday night. She was brilliant. Just her, a piano, some drums and a room full of adoring fans. It was she that opened my eyes to the world of Patreon, and the ways that artists can remain fiercely independent and retain their creative integrity, while still earning a living from their art.
And as this is a blog about Dresden Dolls songs, let me share with you a few of my favourites.
This one always gets me, every time I listen to it:
And of course the original:
Their story is very interesting too. I didn’t realise that Amanda was responsible for all the songwriting. With her collaborator Brian Viglione contributing on the drums.
They have over 1 million listeners on Spotify, and it is so great to be able to dip back into that time when they were firing up the airwaves with their songs. And they are doing some concerts this year, I see!
The early 2000’s
