11 Feb St Kilda Festival 2019
St Kilda Festival was superb yesterday! The sun was shining, but it was not too hot and we met later in the afternoon when most of the heat was out of the day. The first band we saw was at the Latin Stage for some beautiful instruction in Latin dancing, then to the New Music Stage for an up and coming local Unearthed artist. We saw some amazing Bollywood dancing, from a local dance troupe. Then, I found a quiet, shady spot for a spritz Pinot Grigio and a vegetarian French crepe.
It was a little overwhelming with the crowds, but the person who was organising this meetup has an engineer brain and she is always thinking about what could go wrong, or directing us in the correct ways. We were there as a group of 10 or so women, some of whom were not afraid to lose their lunch and climbed onto a pretty crazy fairground ride for a bit of an adrenaline rush.
Straight after this, we found ourselves listening to The Cat Empire. They were super fun and always play the happiest most upbeat tunes. Even from our vantage point, we could see the sea and the sunset behind the stage as they sang, danced, drummed and trumpeted into the sky.
My favourite of their new songs is Oscar Wilde. It is just the funkiest, fun tune that makes me feel like I want to get down and dance. They played this early on in their set, and it augurs well for the release of their album on the 15th of February.
