25 Jun sweet old man in the supermarket
Beautiful, soulful rain.
Sometimes it can be nice to choose an image first. Sometimes it triggers a thought. Tonight, it made me think of a man who I saw this afternoon when I was doing my grocery shopping. He was elderly and pushing along his walking frame, browsing items in the kitchen section of the supermarket. He had selected some kind of glue and gaffer tape, but this was all that he had chosen.
Do you ever feel so much empathy with someone that it makes you want to weep? This is what I feel when I think about this man now. I was careful to smile brightly at him as I walked past and to say ‘hello’. Is it going to be enough? Was he out browsing in the supermarket, because it had come to this, and he wanted some stimulation?
What is happening to all those elderly people living alone in the world. Are they lonely? Are they afraid? It tugs at my heart strings. I want to reach out to them and to help bring some kind of warmth to their lives.
Just another pet project.
