07 Jul National Institute of Circus – NICA – Empty Bodies
I really wish that you could have seen the performance at NICA with me this evening. I have never seen anything like it! It is circus, but from I what I can gather, the absolute pinnacle of physical theatre in Australia.
Have you ever seen anything as amazing as someone balancing and performing acrobatics on a giant hoop – also known as a Cyr wheel? ?Amazing doesn’t even cut it! I wished that I had a video of that whole mesmerising section of the performance, so I could go back and remember what he did frame by frame. It was definitely one of the highlights of my cultural adventures.
Each acrobat worked with their equipment and their bodies with a quality of strength and grace that I have never seen before.
Not only that, but the story they told with their bodies and props was so moving. I was close to tears at one moment in the story. It was beautiful.
If you get a chance to see this show, I definitely would. It is on until next Saturday. So good.
